Georgia receiver Colbie Young was taken into custody early Tuesday morning in Athens. He was charged with misdemeanor charges of battery and assault on an unborn child. The arrest report has now been made public, providing the arresting officer's account of the incident and shedding more light on the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

According to the arrest report, an officer responded to a battery call at an apartment complex on Tallassee Road in Athens. The alleged victim stated she had gone to meet her ex-boyfriend, Colbie Young, to discuss their relationship. After about 20 minutes, the conversation escalated into a heated argument when she discovered Young talking to another woman, which she believed indicated infidelity.

Upon gathering her things and answering a phone call from a friend, the victim states that Young emerged from his room and “grabbed her from behind.” She said he picked her up and began to squeeze her torso and abdomen very hard. The victim told police she “felt Mr. Young was trying to harm her.”

The officer observed a bruise and discoloration on the victim’s lower chest and redness on her right side but found no injuries on the arm where she claimed Young grabbed her. EMS was called, and though she declined transport, she agreed to go to the hospital if the officer took her, which he did. The officer then attempted to contact Young at his residence.

The report states that Young came to the door and invited the officer inside after he knocked on the door. The officer asked Young what had occurred with the victim. Young initially told him nothing before opening up in further interviewing.

According to the report, Young gave brief responses to the officer's questions. He admitted the victim had come over to discuss their breakup but claimed that when the argument escalated, he simply escorted her out and denied grabbing her. When asked about her injuries, Young stated they were not caused by him.

Evaluating all the information he had gathered from the two sources, the officer found probable cause “based on the totality of the circumstances with physical evidence of injury” and placed Young under arrest. He was transported to Clarke County Jail without incident, turned over to sheriff’s office deputies and charged with misdemeanor battery and assault on an unborn child. The officer requested a special condition of bond “due to the victim expressing some concerns about mental abuse in the past that had now escalated to alleged physical abuse.” The victim made mention of being scared of Young, and added that he owns a firearm. He was booked at 4:18 a.m. ET. His bond is set at $2,500.

Young is a transfer from Miami who has played in all 5 games for Georgia this season. He arrived in Athens in the spring and has 11 receptions for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns this season. The 4-1 Bulldogs will host 1-4 Mississippi State at 4:15 PM on Saturday in Athens.
